R2 Scout is our most advanced fixed-blade knife for active outdoor use. It is a high-quality all-terrain knife that you can truly rely on in demanding situations. It is strong without being heavy or bulky, and you get a good, secure grip thanks to our anatomically well-designed classic handle. The knife sheath features a two-way locking system: part is a spring-assisted key lock that typically holds the knife in the sheath, and part is a shackle lock that folds to securely lock the knife in place 100%. The steel we use is world-class Swedish powder steel (Elmax), carefully hardened, cooled to minus 190 °C, and then tempered for two hours to a hardness of HRC 61/62. This results in a steel that is both strong and durable while staying sharp for a long time without being brittle.

The knife is designed for those with slightly smaller hands, such as women, youth, girls, or for those who simply prefer a slightly smaller knife without sacrificing quality. In terms of quality, it competes with most knives on the global market (including many of our own models), but considering that more than half of the global population is made up of women/girls, it is only right that this customer category also gets the best technique in the world. It’s still not a “girl’s knife,” but simply a knife for those who don’t have hands as large as a lid.

The convex ground edge is very sharp and holds its sharpness well. When the edge loses its sharpness or if it has received a chip in the edge, use a fine and flat diamond sharpening stone like the DC4 to restore the edge to its original appearance. If you think this is difficult, you can send the knife to us to have it sharpened, but of course, there will be a cost for that.

A few words about the knife’s dimensions: The reason we’ve opted for a really strong spine on the blade is to give the knife the strength to withstand stress. The tang of the blade, i.e., the part of the blade that goes into the handle, is also wide and strong and is visible at the end of the handle. The tip of the blade is reinforced to prevent breakage. In case the tip somehow breaks, it’s possible to grind a new tip. The same goes for the edge: if there is damage to the edge, it’s no problem for us to polish a new edge. The knife is very dimensioned to withstand a lot of tension, so if you use this knife with a little thought, it will last you a lifetime. Not only is it climate-smart, but it also cares about the planet’s limited resources.
