For polishing, lapping, sharpening, and honing knives and woodworking tools with a fine micro-fine edge. The Green Micro Fine Honing Compound is made from a combination of fine-grade aluminum oxide and chromium powders, resulting in excellent cutting action along with a fine, shiny finish. The binders in this compound are formulated to facilitate loading. The compound adheres well to cotton, felt, leather, or wood.

Ideal for razors, carving tools, and gouges; it can also be used for the final polishing of almost any tool. It is used with cotton or felt wheels and/or leather belts for motorized honing. It can also be used with a leather strop for manual honing.

Regarding the grit size of our compound, abrasives are actually measured by the mesh size of the sieve, rather than by the grit. For the vast majority of these compounds, including the green compound, the mesh size would be -325. (This is a commercial determination that simply says that nothing in the abrasive is coarser than grit 325.) However, this specification would see the fine particle in that same abrasive go down to 0.6 microns.

Additionally, there are many other factors that must be considered in a compound, beyond grit/mesh size, including:

The hardness of the abrasive, the porosity of the abrasive, the oil absorption value of the abrasive, the melting point of the binders, and the ratio of abrasives to binders.

A broad generalization would be as follows:

"The drier the quality, the higher the shine will typically be. Less binder will produce a drier working compound with less cutting and probably leave a higher shine. Conversely, increasing the binder ratio will result in a greasier compound that, in most cases, will cut sharper, provide more lubrication, and possibly reduce the frequency of application."
