It is a pleasure to present one of the most advanced hunting knives in the world: NL5cx Idun, with a Cowry X Damascus steel blade. This is probably the best cutting steel in the world and definitely one of the most exclusive knives ever made. The cutting laminate includes a powder steel with the following content: C 3%, Cr 20%, Mo 1%, V 0.3%, and 100% iron. Its hardness is no less than 64 HRC! The side laminates are 120 layers of stainless Damascus steel. The combination forms a blade whose beauty and strength are a global benchmark. The knife offers excellent utility for all kinds of work, but most customers will probably acquire it for their exclusive collection.

When it comes to the Northern Light series, no effort has been spared to make the knife as strong, beautiful, and comfortable as possible. It is a pleasure to look at this knife and exciting to use it. The blade is made of laminated VG10 steel, where the edge is made with the famous VG10 steel and the sides are made of tough, fully stainless 420J2 steel. This combination is good, as it brings together all conceivable and desirable properties such as strength, resistance to torque, and edge durability in a single blade. A 6 mm thick blade by itself would be strong enough for most tasks, but with laminate technology, an additional 20% resistance to bending is expected, compared to a regular VG10 blade.

The handle is made of specially selected oxhide leather: unfortunately a material that manufacturers often overlook, but it provides a secure and rugged grip. It ages beautifully, and as the years go by, it acquires an attractive brown patina, which is unaffected by oil or solvents and is waterproof. Dryness may cause small cracks in the handle, but they disappear when the knife is used again. We persist with the convex edge, as Fällkniven considers this the best combination of cutting performance and edge strength, and of course, the Frey NL4 blade features this.

Anyone who knows anything about knife making knows that such an edge can only be made by hand, and that’s why 99.99% of all knives do not have this type of edge. Knives, in general, are mass-produced, where robots and CNC grinders (computer numerically controlled) shape the blades as best they can. The machines are loaded with stacks of blades so that production can continue 24 hours a day, and the result is often really good: good knives at reasonable prices. However, if you want superior edge strength, corrosion resistance, edge durability, and design, no machine has been invented that can come close to the craftsmanship of a trained locksmith. Therefore, we are proud to present our Northern Light series, aware that only the most quality-conscious will appreciate its assets.
