The selection of products “Mountain Essentials” created by Bowland is focused on the styles, destinations and species most frequent inside Europe. Namely, short
one to three day trips in the European ranges and species such as the Chamois or Ibex.
Mountain hunts in other countries or ranges, or for other species, will be included in “Expedition Essentials”.
We would like to remind you that the aim of this selection of products is to make the choice of products that comprise your kit easier for you.
To make the choice of products easier. Bowland has only included products that are 100% indicated to comprise your mountain hunt kit.
Other Sitka Gear products with similar characteristics, or a different Optifade, that aren’t included in this collection, could also be suitable for this type of hunt.
Even though we’ve tried to simplify things to the fullest, some garments included in this section perform the same function. That is, they would occupy the same
place in your kit. So you should choose between them. While taking the functionality of both items into account, we have tried to offer you only a single
option, the most recommended. However, in some cases due to their high suitability we have offered two. Although both products would be highly
recommendable for this activity, slight differences in their functions will allow you to choose the one which best fits your needs.
So that you don’t confuse the duplicated garments and the characteristics that can help you choose the one that fits your needs better:
Mountain Pant vs Timberline Pant:
We could call the Mountain Pant an “All-Year-Rounder”. It’s perfect for facing early season hunts – spring and the beginning of autumn. Its lightness gives it
exceptional dynamic properties.
Even though we could also call the Timberline Pant an “All-Year-Rounder”, it is a better option for sorties in the autumn and winter months. Reinforced and
waterproof kneepads and rear mean greater protection when we move in wet and snowy terrain.
Mountain Jacket vs Jetstream Jacket:
The Mountain jacket does not include interior insulation. For this reason it converts into a perfect Windstopper for rapid ascents when we need highly breathable
garments which protect us from cold wind and moderate rainfall.
The Jetstream jacket offers similar levels of breathability, Windstopper capacity and water resistance as the Mountain. However, its synthetic fine wool interior
covering notably increases its thermal capacity. This makes it more recommendable for late mountain hunts – end of autumn or winter – or with a
lower level of physical activity.
Kelvin Active Jacket vs Kelvin Life Jacket:
While both jackets have interior thermal insulation, thereby developing all their 2nd layer potential, both are compatible for the same kit.
The Kelvin Active with Polarter Alpha is lighter, thinner and more breathable. Perfect to use at the beginning of the season or on ascents during the colder months.
The Kelvin Lite Hoody with Primaloft in its interior gives better thermal insulation, making it perfect for the end of the season or for avoiding the cold when you
remain stationary after long ascent stretches.
Both jackets combined offer an exceptional level of thermal insulation, a guarantee when facing end of season hunts, and at the same time offer excellent lightness,
comfort and manoeuvrability.
Mountain Hauler 2700 vs Mountain Hauler 4000:
The main difference between these two backpacks is the volume.
The Mountain Hauler 2700 Backpack is the perfect daypack for one day assaults.
The Mountain Hauler 4000 Backpack is our recommendation for mountain stays of two or three days or sorties when we have to carry a slain animal. It includes a
special rack for carrying the animal. Due to its volume, carcasses the size of a Chamois can be transported along with our hunting equipment.
This diagram presents all the variables that we have taken into consideration to offer you this product selection.
